All prosthodontic treatment is ultimately dictated by the health of the basal tissue- BONE, since all functional loads are ultimately borne by it. From conventional dentures to implants, all kind of restorations elicit a certain response from live osseous tissue, a thorough knowledge of the physiology of bone in health and disease is , therefore, imperative to enable the prosthodontist to design and prepare such restorations that not only restore function but also continuously promote bone health. Molecular biology dictates all histological and biochemical processes within the cellular and extra cellular element of all tissues, and it is essential to imbibe knowledge of this component to have an in depth understanding of bone physiology under prosthetic function.
