WORLD HEAD & NECK CANCER DAY 2026

Observed annually on July 27th, World Head and Neck Cancer Day aims to increase public awareness regarding head and neck cancers, emphasize the importance of early diagnosis and prevention which in turn improves the quality of life of individuals affected by these conditions.
In observance of this important occasion, the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Saraswati Dental College and Hospital, Lucknow, organized an informative awareness lecture on July 27th, 2026, under the Capability Enhancement and Development Scheme (Professional and Human Values Development). The program was conducted for undergraduate students(B.D.S 1ST year and 3RD year) of Saraswati Dental College and Hospital with the objective of enhancing knowledge regarding comprehensive management and supportive care of patients with head and neck malignancies.
The scientific session was delivered by Prof (Dr.) Payal Tripathi, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, who served as the Internal Resource Person. The lecture, titled "Palliative Care in Head and Neck Oncology: Enhancing Quality of Life," highlighted the principles and significance of palliative care in improving the physical, psychological, social, and emotional well-being of patients diagnosed with head and neck cancers. The session emphasized the multidisciplinary approach to palliative management, symptom control, pain management, nutritional support, communication with patients and caregivers, and the role of oral healthcare professionals in providing compassionate, patient-cantered care throughout the disease trajectory.
The program witnessed active participation from B.D.S. First Year (Batch 2025–26) and B.D.S. Third Year (Batch 2023–24) students.Faculty members and postgraduate students also attended the session, enriching the academic interaction and fostering awareness regarding the importance of holistic cancer care. The program was graciously attended by Prof. (Dr.) Kamlesh Singh, Vice Principal and Head Department of Orthodontics, Prof. (Dr.) Sunira Chandra, Dean P.G. Studies, and Head, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, their esteemed presence and interaction with the students encouraged the participants and added significance to the event.
The program was coordinated by Prof. (Dr.)Shruti Sinha, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.)Sunira Chandra, DeanP.G. Studies and Head, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, who served as the Chief Coordinator. Their leadership ensured the successful organization and smooth execution of the awareness program.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion, during which participants gained valuable insights into the role of palliative care in improving patient outcomes and quality of life. The initiative proved to be an important step toward strengthening awareness about head and neck cancer management, promoting empathy in clinical practice, and reinforcing the responsibility of future dental professionals in comprehensive oncology care.
