Oral Hygiene Tips for Your Baby’s First Teeth

A baby’s first teeth may be tiny, but they need proper care from the very beginning. Primary teeth are important for chewing, speaking, jaw development and guiding permanent teeth into the correct position. Starting oral hygiene early also helps build healthy habits for life.
Tips to Care for Your Baby’s First Teeth
Start Cleaning Early
· Clean your baby’s gums with a soft, damp cloth even before teeth erupt.
· This helps remove bacteria and keeps the mouth healthy.
Use a Soft Toothbrush
· Once teeth appear, brush gently using a soft-bristled infant toothbrush.
· Use only a rice grain-sized amount of child-friendly toothpaste.
Prevent Tooth Decay
· Avoid giving sugary drinks, juices or milk bottles at bedtime.
· Do not leave a bottle or pacifier in the baby’s mouth while sleeping.
Encourage Healthy Eating
· Introduce healthy foods when solid foods begin.
· Limit sticky, sugary and starchy foods that can cause cavities.
Avoid Sharing Spoons
· Sharing spoons can transfer bacteria from adults to babies and increase the risk of tooth decay.
