The Tobacco Control and Cessation Add-on Program, organized by the Tobacco Cessation Centre, Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology at Saraswati Dental College, was conducted from 18th March to 8th April 2026. The program included lectures covering key areas such as tobacco epidemiology, national control policies, various forms of tobacco and areca nut, associated adverse effects with emphasis on Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders, and the role of multidisciplinary approaches in tobacco control.
The program aimed to equip final-year undergraduate and first-year postgraduate students with essential knowledge and skills to support tobacco cessation in clinical practice. Interactive sessions enhanced understanding of the public health burden of tobacco use and emphasized the role of dental professionals in prevention and early diagnosis.
A post-program evaluation assessed participant’s learning outcomes. The program highlighted the importance of integrating tobacco cessation counselling into routine dental care and reflected the institution’s commitment to public health and professional development.
