Observed on July 27th, World Head & Neck Cancer Day aims to raise public awareness about head and neck cancers and highlight the experiences of those affected in our communities.
In observance of this important day, the Tobacco Cessation Centre, under the aegis of Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, Saraswati Dental College & Hospital, Lucknow, organized an awareness session on July 23, 2025, under the Capability Enhancement and Development Scheme (Human Values and Professional Development).
The lecture, titled “Raising Awareness on National Tobacco Control Program”, was conducted for second-year postgraduate students and interns of Saraswati Dental College & Hospital, Lucknow, along with students of BSM College of Nursing.
The session focused on raising awareness about the National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP) and featured three distinguished external speakers. Dr. Mukesh Matanhelia, State Nodal Officer (NTCP, U.P.), and Mr. Satish Tripathi, State Consultant (NTCP, U.P.), delivered impactful insights on public health strategies, tobacco control interventions, and the importance of early detection of tobacco-related head and neck cancers. The guest of the day, Mr. Vivek Awasthi, Executive Director of the U.P. Voluntary Health Association, highlighted community-based tobacco cessation initiatives and ongoing public health reforms.
The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation and proved to be a significant step towards promoting cancer awareness and public health education.
