What to Expect When You Take Your Child for a Dental Filling
If your child has a cavity, the dentist may recommend a filling to stop the decay and protect the tooth.

Before the Visit:
- Stay calm and explain it gently: “The dentist will clean your tooth and make it better.”
- Bring their favorite toy for comfort.
During the Visit:
- The dentist may take an X-ray.
- Numbing gel and a tiny injection may be used so your child doesn’t feel pain.
- The cavity is cleaned.
- A filling (usually tooth-colored) is placed and polished.
After the Visit:
- The mouth may feel numb for a few hours.
- Give soft foods and avoid hot drinks.
- Mild soreness is normal and goes away soon.
Prevent Cavities:
- Brush twice a day.
