THE RIGHT WAY TO BRUSH YOUR TEETH
Are You Brushing Your Teeth Correctly?
Brushing your teeth may seem simple, but it’s surprisingly easy to make small mistakes. When teeth aren’t cleaned thoroughly, food debris and plaque start to build up along the teeth and gums. If plaque isn’t removed, it hardens into tartar, increasing the risk of cavities and gum disease. Brushing the right way is essential to protect your teeth, gums, and overall oral health.
How to Brush Your Teeth the Right Way:
1. Take Your Time
Dentists recommend brushing for at least two minutes, twice a day. Using a timer or a fun brushing app, especially for children, can help make sure you don’t rush through it.
2. Choose the Right Toothbrush
Use a toothbrush with soft or medium bristles that feels comfortable in your hand and reaches all areas of your mouth. Replace your toothbrush if:
● It’s older than three months.
● The bristles look worn or frayed.
● You’ve recently recovered from a cold or infection.
3. Keep Toothpaste Simple
A regular fluoride toothpaste is more than enough. You don’t need fancy products or extra gadgets, a simple toothpaste is effective, affordable and gentle on your teeth.
The Correct Brushing Technique-
● Hold your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums.
● Use gentle, short back-and-forth strokes.
● Clean every surface of each tooth, including chewing surfaces.
● Brush from top to bottom to remove plaque effectively.
● Tilt the brush vertically to clean the inside of the front teeth.
● Pay extra attention to hard-to-reach areas, fillings, and crowns.
● Gently clean your tongue to help prevent bad breath.
● Rinse your mouth and toothbrush thoroughly.
● Use mouthwash as an optional final step.
