Sphere India in collaboration with NDMA, UNICEF, WHO India and HCL Foundation has launched the COVID-19 Academy with an aim to build capacities of frontline volunteers and outreach workers for COVID-19 preparedness and response.

Volunteers from CSOs, FBOs, CBOs, Corporations,Red Cross, Civil Defence, NCC, NSS, NYK, student groups and individuals willing to support local level authorities to deliver health and social protection services to address direct and secondary impact of COVID-19.

Course Schedule:

1600-1605: Introduction to the course and facilitator

1605-1650: Technical Session by Ms. Madhuri Das, UNFPA

1650 - 1700: Q/A Session

The session will have an overview on why gender is a concern in the context of COVID19; how it may deepen existing gender inequalities and inequities, key principles to ensure gender sensitive humanitarian response in COVID context and how youth volunteers can help in the following areas - Identifying people living in vulnerable situations; Disseminating accurate information and addressing stigma; Coordinating with local institutions and platforms for relief efforts and; Preventing violence and harmful practices against women and girls. Critically, we will also highlight how they should protect themselves and others in their network while they are reaching out to help others.

Ms Madhuri Das, UNFPA

Madhuri Das has over 17 years of professional experience in development organisations and has managed mid/large sized and multi-sectoral projects in primarily Delhi, Gujarat and Bihar. Her expertise and commitment lie in the areas of Gender/GBV and Rights, Sexual and Reproductive Rights and Health/ HIV/AIDS and Family Planning for targeted population, adolescents and young. She has successfully led and partnered on strategic envisioning, programme planning and implementation, leadership mentoring and policy advocacy programmes and worked with various donor agencies, BMGF, DFID, America India Foundation, USAID, UNWomen, Gap Inc etc. She has directly worked with state governments on the thematic issues in Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi and West Bengal. Madhuri believes each one of us in our own ways can contribute to changing lives of women and girls for the better.
