Basic Sciences are a key components of medical education curriculum and help in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, ailments, and conditions.

Q. What are the importance of branches of Basic Sciences?

Anatomy supports the treatment of dental patients regarding the study of structure of human body (External, Internal, Microscopic, Developmental, Study of bones and Genetics). Landmark of the organs help for the best treatment related to surgical and clinical in science of dentistry.
Structural function of body is related to physiology subject which help us to diagnose normal and abnormal functions of organs related in the dental patient.
Biochemistry is the application of chemistry to the study of biological processes at the cellular and molecular level. It is important that a dentist should be able to understand and appreciate research finding critically.
Pharmacology is based on different compounds of medicine and helpful for best treatment of dental diseases related in specialized field of dentistry and recovers the diseases. The aim of dental pharmacology is to understand the scientific aspects of how drugs used in dentistry act within various body systems.
Microbiology helps normal and abnormal diagnosis of microorganisms in the field of science of dentistry related pre and post treatment regarding bacterial, viral, allergic, and fungal infection in the dental patient.
Pathology is the study of diseases. It is a bridge between science and medicine. It underpins every aspect of patient care from diagnostic testing and treatment advice. Pathology support the diagnosis and treatment in the dental patient related to normal and abnormal parameters of human blood.

Building of science of dentistry is not able to build without best knowledge of basic sciences as its made the best Dental Surgeon.

Description:

The Basic Sciences deals with the understanding of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, microbiology, and pathology.

The Department of Basic Sciences at Saraswati Dental College began in the year 1998 with the inception of the institute. The Department of Basic Sciences was privileged to be guided by highly experienced educated faculty and guided Ph.D. and M.D. in different field of Basic sciences. A multitude of undergraduates have passed from the Saraswati Dental College and placed nationally as well as internationally.

Prof. Asha Mathur had been awarded “The Glaxo Oration Award” by The National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) for the year 2004. Prof. Asha Mathur was the principal investigator in the research project sponsored by Department of Biotechnologies, New Delhi.

Gross Human Anatomy , Osteology and Histology

Knowledge of anatomical structure of the body is basic to understanding musculoskeletal function and how both structure and function are modified by exercise or disease. Gross human anatomy, considered the most relevant basic discipline for surgical specialist. Human cadaver allow the students, studying many disciplines,including medicine to observe muscles, bones and organs in a life-sized model.

Bacteriology

Microbiology department gives the opportunity to study the details of bacteria and fungus.Department focuses on bacterial projects by following the various areas like gram staining, acid fast staining, culture media, identification of different bacteria and antibiotic sensitivity testing.
