Department of Prosthodontics, Crown & Bridge celebrated the INTERNATIONAL SLEEP APNEA AWARENESS DAY on 20th March 2021 to enlighten all the present about the highly prevalent yet under-diagnosed condition, i.e. sleep apnea. The event was graced by the presence of the distinguished guests - Prof. Dr Alok Dhawan, Director, Centre for Biomedical Research, Lucknow and Prof. Suryakant, Head, Department - Respiratory Medicine, KGMU along with Dr Rajat Mathur, President SDC; Dr K.N. Dubey, Principal, SDC; Dr Saumya Navit, Vice Principal, SDC, all faculty members, and residents. After lighting the inaugural lamp, Dr Arvind Tripathi (HOD and Dean PG Studies) addressed the audience about the signs and symptoms of OSA and its impact on overall health. Dr Suryakant further emphasized the importance of clinical correlation along with investigative measures to diagnose debilitating conditions like OSA and gave the following four leads for the spot diagnosis of a patient suffering from sleep apnea: OBESITY, EXCESSIVE DAYTIME SLEEPINESS, HIGH NECK CIRCUMFERENCE, LOUD SNORING. The lecture being extremely informative and eye-opening, saw enthusiastic participation by all – faculty members, postgraduates, interns and undergraduate students. Sleep-related questionnaires were also distributed to the patients to assess if they had any sleep-related problems. Lastly, Dr. Rajat Mathur expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the efforts taken by the Department of Prosthodontics under the guidance of Dr. Arvind Tripathi for this novel initiative.
