Department of General Medicine was established in 1996, since then the department is offering teaching facilities for undergraduates/postgraduate students. In the department along with lectures and clinical postings, the students are also presenting regular seminars and case presentation. The department is offering OPD for all patients and is equipped with multi-para monitor, electrocardiogram and glucometer for spot blood sugar monitoring. The department also has a well-equipped ambulance and an associated 20-bedded hospital. A proposed 100 bedded hospital is in the pipeline.
The Department aims at providing the best diagnostic and treatment facilities to the poor and needy. It has been the constant endeavour of the faculty to provide best and efficient treatment to the patients free of cost and improve the facilities provided to the patients.
The Department conducts exclusive Diabetic care clinic which includes blood sugar checking for almost every patient, patient education program, early detection of diabetic complications and regular free camps. Since 1996, more than 6 lakh patients have been examined. Dr, Vikas Srivastava, a faculty member of the department of general medicine and having a fellowship of American Diabetic Association which is the apex body in diabetology is actively guiding the Diabetic care clinic.
CME & CLINICAL TRIALS
The Faculty of the department has presented much national and international paper and attended many national and international conferences. The department of general medicine has specialized faculty for Neurology, Diabetology and Cardiology, the department is also conducting clinical trials for various latest treatment modalities such as "the role of Pregabalin in cases of trigeminal neuralgia." The department is also conducting ENHANCE trial on "the role of nifedipine in cases of hypertension" with the help of various pharma companies.
Regular specialized diagnostic and treatment camps are held at various places such as Arogyadham for rural population where basic treatment and medicines are distributed free of cost.
