Department Of Dental Material Sciences
The Department came into existence in1998. Since then, it is being continuously updated and refined. Fundamental knowledge of composition, in-vivo and in-vitro behaviour of dental materials is vital to decision making in the use of these materials inpatient therapy.
Application of Material Science to Dentistry is already established worldwide. The continuous research in improvement in the performance of materials and studies on their in vivo behaviour and clinical performance is being undertaken. The Department has actively collaborated with the Departments of Metallurgy and Materials Science Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, Indian institute of technology, Kanpur, Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology, Lucknow and Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. Active research on the role of additives to enhance properties of gypsum, effect of temperature on the behaviour of dental porcelain has been done. A new postulate on the mode of ceramic-nonprecious alloy bonding has been enunciated and published.
Large and well lit Dental Materials laboratory with central gas connection and seating capacity of 120 students. Attached plaster room well equipped with model trimmers, heavy duty lathes, alloy casting equipment, acryliser and instant water heater.
Store: Well stocked with various dental materials essential to teaching undergraduate students. Provision for acquisition of special materials for training and teaching of Postgraduates.

A unique feature of the Department , this museum is updated every year and is a rich learning experience for all students and visitors.
